Despite my best of intentions I’ve totally failed at taking bump pictures.  I had planned on keeping up my silhouette photos, however I haven’t so the picture below is the best I’ve got.  My sister asked to see the bump one day when I was at the gym so I took a quick pick with my iPhone.  I’m completely unable to explain that weird smirk on my face, but at least I have some kind of documentation of the bump during the 6th month!

Second Trimester: Month 6 in Review

Craving …

fruit {still}, ice cream and peanut butter.  Peanut butter on an English muffin in the morning is probably my favorite thing right now.

Feeling …

Pretty good!  I’m still in the sweet spot of the pregnancy and generally feeling well.  The bump is starting to get to a point of being a ‘substantial’ bump so definitely starting to feel bigger.  I was feeling a bit worn-out and decided to stop my weight training and kickboxing routine.  Instead I’ve been doing a lot more walking as well as starting a prenatal pilates class, which I’m really enjoying.

Missing …

nothing really.

Wearing …

all maternity clothes with the exception of a few pairs of sweatpants, yoga pants and a sweatshirt that oddly still fits.  The sweatshirt’s days are certainly numbered!

Movement …

So many little punches and kicks!  It’s really fun to feel Kiwi move and his movements seem to get stronger by the day.  He loves to party while I’m trying to sleep, which can sometimes makes falling asleep difficult.  I really don’t mind though.  I love feeling him move.

Excited About …

Moving into the 3rd trimester.

Monthly Highlight …

This month the highlight was our trip to Chiang Mai.  We had a friend visiting from the States and decided to take the opportunity to do a little exploring outside of Bangkok.  The mini vacation was a lot of fun.  We managed to cram a lot into the long weekend and even spent a morning hanging with the elephants!  I was a little hesitant to be do the elephants excursion while pregnant, but it was a highlight of the weekend and I’m SO glad we did it.

Nervous About …

Jellybean acclimating to life as a big sister.  We’ve been doing as much as we can to help prepare her for the change, but I know there will be an adjustment period.  That said, Jellybean is already so sweet and loving towards the baby bump.  Every night she kisses and hugs my belly before bed.  I’m not allowed to touch her while she does this … I’m told it’s ‘Kiwi’s hug’ not mine.  Too cute, right?!  She also loves to feel the baby kick and will sometimes tell me ‘Kiwi is saying hi sister’.  My heart melts EVERY TIME!  If you are on the lookout for a good big sister book we are loving Little Big Girl.

First vs. Second Pregnancy …

I don’t have the congestion or snoring that I had with my first pregnancy.  This could be in part because of the different climate, but it seems to be this is just a different pregnancy. Checkout my recap of my 6 month with Jellybean.

Hello second trimester it is SOOOO nice to see you! Morning (really all day) sickness is .. GONE!  HOLLA!  I feel like myself again and while I’m still more tired than normal, early evening naps are no longer required. =)  The belly and baby keep on growing and growing.  I was surprised to compare my first belly picture to the updated one.  Here’s the belly at 22 weeks (and a couple days):

22 Weeks Pregnant, 5 Months | Life's Tidbits

Pregnancy Tidbits from Weeks 18-22

Random Tidbits

As previously announced Jellybean is a girl!

Belly button is out … already! POUT.  Apparently my inny/outty belly button is taking full advantage of being pregnant and has become a full blown outty.  Hopefully it goes back to “normal” after Jellybean makes her debut.

I am craving coffee, which is weird for someone who has never been a huge coffee drinker.  Regular coffee, iced coffee and lattes … I want them all multiple times a day.  Don’t worry though, despite the craving I am limiting myself to the doctor’s recommendation of only 1 cup of caffeine per day.

Symptoms

Leg cramps – Holy Charlie Horse Batman!  I don’t think I’ve had leg cramps/charlie horses like this since playing ice hockey and soccer in high school.  According to my handy dandy pregnancy book, leg cramps are completely normal.  I’ve been trying to stretch my calves and eat more bananas to combat these nightly legs cramps.

Back Pain – As the belly got bigger my back started to hurt.  The beginning of the 5th month was pretty uncomfortable, but it quickly subsided.

Easily Winded – I was glad the doctor warned me that I might become winded easily.  Although I wouldn’t say I am super in shape I’ve always been able to walk long distances and go up/down a flight of stairs without issue.  Now when I walk and talk for too many blocks I get winded.  Carrying my computer and purse up or down the stairs in my building while talking on the phone … also equals getting winded.

Movement

I felt the baby move for the first time the afternoon of our 20 week appointment.  It really does feel like a “flutter”.  For me, in the beginning, it was hard to determine if the sensation was the baby moving or well …. ummm … other stomach stuff … yeah let’s put it that way.  She tends to be most active right before I go to bed.  In fact the calmer and more still I am the more I can feel her move and kick.  The highlight of any day (or evening really) is when I feel her kick.

Maternity Clothes

I’m rocking 90% maternity clothes at this point.  Sweat pants, pajamas and a few flowy shirts about sums up the clothing that still fit over the belly.  I had been holding out on buying a bunch of maternity clothes when my mom made a good point.  The earlier I buy them the longer I get to wear them!  That was all the justification I needed.  At about 21 weeks pregnant my mom and I went shopping at Motherhood Maternity.  It was honestly the best thing she could have suggested we do while I visiting the family in Massachusetts.   I now have enough clothing options that I don’t have to wear the same things over and over again.  Plus in all honesty I’m far more comfortable in my new clothes then what was already in my closet.

Missing Anything?

Turkey breast sandwiches!

Highlights

Finding out Jellybean is a girl and feeling her move are definitely tied for first place this month.  A VERY close second would be the first time the husband felt Jellybean kick!!

Looking Forward To…

The 24 week ultrasound.  My little sister is coming into town and will be my wing woman for what will most likely be my last ultrasound!  It has been pretty special to see the Jellybean with the husband, my mom and even by myself.  I’m so excited though to share the moment with my little sister/Auntie-to-be.

No more traveling.  While I adored seeing so many friends and family in July, the 5 consecutive weekends of traveling was just too much for this pregnant gal.  The husband and I agreed early on in the pregnancy we were going on “travel maternity leave” starting in September.

Fears/Concerns

Gestational Diabetes Test.  I am not looking forward to this test at my 24 week appointment.  I know it is uncommon and the test will probably come back negative, but I’m still a little worried.

Labor!  Despite delivery being about 28 weeks away I am nervous about it.  I think I will continue to live in denial about it for a few more weeks … currently pulling an ostrich move and burying my head in the sand.  At some point soon facing this fear is a must.  =)

It was a whole 16 weeks since I last blogged until last week  … *hangs head in shame*.  I have been thinking about blogging and I even had a few posts 90% completed, but just couldn’t muster up the energy to complete them.  BUT here is the thing … I am back and have some great new tidbits to share with you.

For starters I guess I should provide you with my REALLY GOOD excuse for being an absentee blogger … wait for it … wait for it … are you ready?!?!

I’M PREGNANT!!!

pregnancyannouncement

{Sorry for the bad camera phone photo … and as you can see from the tags I was trying to some new maternity pants}

Oh wow, oh my, yup, I just put that out there on the world wide web for the world to see!!  The husband and I are beyond thrilled to be adding a new member to our little family.  I’m not so sure Sophi, our dog, is going to feel the same way come December.  Poor little pup is about to have her world severely rocked.

At 22 weeks, I am just a little over 1/2 way through the pregnancy and it has been a wild ride so far!!!  The first trimester took a lot out of me.  There was morning sickness that lasted all day and “power naps” after work that were always 2-3 hours.  Luckily the second trimester is treating me a lot better than the first!  I feel like myself again … except that my clothes no longer fit and when I look down I can see my belly sticking out.  LOL.  So there you  have it … my excuse for not blogging.   Baking the bun in the oven briefly took precedence over blogging.  =)

I have a number of fun stories, tidbits and baby related projects to share with you in the coming weeks so I hope you will forgive me for being an absentee blogger.
