My little sister is getting married.  Eeeekkkk!!!  It still doesn’t feel quite real that my baby sister is getting married this summer.  Seriously, when did she go from being a little girl with wild banana curls to a beautiful, (and very grown up) young woman?

For as long as I can remember my sister has loved the color pink.  Sometime during the planning of my own wedding, I made an off hand comment that when she got married her bridal shower theme would be ‘Think Pink’.  So when the bridal shower planning began it seemed only fitting to follow through with ‘Think PINK!’ theme.

Creating invitations is one of my favorite creative things to do in preparation for a party.  Invitations set the stage for an event.  They serve as the guests’ first glimpse of what is to come.  So I wanted to give the guests a small taste of the event while providing them with all the details they need.

After reviewing a ton of invitations, which provided ample inspiration, I started designing the Think PINK bridal shower invitation.  The bridal shower invitations took a few iterations.  All the details of the invite from the font and color to the wording and design had to be spot on.

Here is the final product:

With the bridal shower invitation I enclosed a recipe card for each of the guests.  My sister has been getting into cooking over the past few years; this seemed like the perfect way to build her recipe collection.  Originally, I had planned to design and print custom recipe cards, however time got away from me and I ended up purchasing recipe cards online instead.

Here’s the copy for the back of the invitation {it’s kind of hard to read in the pictures}:

One small request that won’t be too hard…

Bring a Recipe

{Bride Name} & {Groom Name} will soon say, “I do.” They’ve got lots of love, but they’ll need to eat too!{Bride Name} might like to try your favorite cake, or that dish your friends always ask you to make.

So don’t forget the recipe card on this special date. Fill it in now, don’t hesitate. At the shower will be a recipe box to fill so bring this card or mail it back if you will!

All in all, I am very happy with how the invitation turned out.  My sister was very pleased with the bridal shower invitation design, which was the most important thing.

More accurately this is probably called an egg casserole, however my family calls it an egg soufflé.  Soufflé just sounds fancier and frankly a little more delicious.

I was first introduced to this recipe by my mother.  Her friend, Kathy, had given it to her (which I have since slightly modified).  We were hosting a Thanksgiving weekend brunch and needed something that was relatively easy to make.  The egg soufflé was a HUGE hit with my family as well as our guests.

As someone who loves and I mean LOVES brunch, the egg soufflé dish quickly became a staple item at almost all of the brunches I’ve hosted.  At birthday parties, holiday gatherings, baby showers and bridal showers alike this recipe has never failed to impress the guests!!

{Recipe} Egg Soufflé | easy and perfect brunch | Life's Tidbits

Ingredients

2.5 cups 2% Milk
8 oz shredded sharp cheddar cheese
5 Eggs (lightly beaten)
1 tsp salt
1 loaf French bread, crust removed and sliced
1/2 stick Butter

Instructions
Makes 6-8 Servings

Butter bread then cut into 1 inch cubes.  Combine milk, cheese, eggs and salt in a bowl.

Spray pan with nonstick spray.  Place buttered bread in pan.  Pour milk, cheese, salt and egg mixture over bread.  Place in the refrigerator over night.

Bake at 300* for 1 hour or until the souffle isn’t runny.  Note:  I’ve found sometimes it takes 1.5 hours.

Cut into 8 slices and serve immediately!

It’s almost time to call our wedding stuff a wrap, but before I do I MUST, must, must share with you my DC bridal shower.  My girls planned a lingerie bridal shower for me which was fabulous and the details were perfection.  The Newlywed Game was was pretty hilarious.   Before the bridal shower they asked my husband questions about the me and our relationship.  Then I was asked the same questions.  For each question I got wrong I had to chew a piece of bubble gum.

In the picture on the left we are all laughing and my sister is passing me some gum since I got a question wrong.  In the picture on the right I am clearly hesitant about the next question that will be asked.

Although I did pretty well I was definitely drooling because I was chewing so much bubble gum by the end of the game.  Do you see the tissue/napkin in my hand … yes I was starting to drool LOL.  That bubble gum is JUICY I tell you!  To go with the lingerie theme my cousin (who is insanely talented in the cake baking/designing department) made this beautiful cake:

I believe it is two sheet pan cakes – one for the base and one for the body – and the boobs were cupcakes.  I’ve been dying for a friend to have a lingerie themed bridal shower or bachelorette.  I would love to attempt to make this cake.  I found one blog that gave step by step instructions on how to make the cake, but it has recently been removed … POUT!  I should have copied the direction as soon as I found the blog – lesson learned.

And because one DIY baked good just wouldn’t do my sister and my mom’s friend made a second.  They made butt/lingerie cookies for all bridal shower guests.  Not only were the cookies yummy, they were so cute!  But these cookies are hard to transport.  The cookies pictured below were among the survivors from the 1.5 hour flight to DC from Boston.  Luckily they planned ahead and made extra in the event that some of the cookies broke during their travel time.  It’s strongly recommended you don’t travel too much with these little guys or they might get ruined.

So what did they need to make these cookies you might ask …

  1. Sugar Cookie Recipe
  2. Heart shaped cookie cutter
  3. White Frosting mixed with different food coloring
  4. Frosting bags and tips

I Facebooked my mom’s friend and she was kind enough to give me some tips on how to make these cookies come out right.   “I used a rolled sugar cookie dough.  Rolled it out and cut them into heart shapes. as soon as they came out of the oven, I cut off the tip end of the cookie, forming the butt part.  It was a lot of trial and error.  I tried doing that before I cooked them, but it didn’t work. they would swell and spread and not even look like a ‘fat butt’. ”  Thanks for the tips Kathy!!  Then the frosting bags were filled with tips and frosting.  From there you just decorate each individual cookie.

The husband showed up at the end of the shower to have dessert with me and all my lovely ladies.  My dad was there as well … don’t worry we wouldn’t leave him out.  :)  As folks were picking out their cookies and saying goodbye I snapped this fun picture of my little sister and husband.  I LOVE the picture and THEM!!!

The shower was SO much fun!  Do you like the cake and butt cookies?  I know I do!!!

As I wrapped up the layout and picture choices for our wedding album with the photographer this week I realized it has been a while since I blogged about wedding stuff.

Wedding blogs turned me onto all sorts of fun little items which make for adorable details at a wedding … or a bridal shower, baby shower or any kind of party really.  One of my biggest must haves for my wedding was purple barbor shop paper straws.

I Googled purple paper straws for weeks and … NOTHING.  I could find gray, pink, red, blue and other colors, but no puprle.  Then I got my Dad to look online.  As always he worked his magic and WALAH …

Check ‘em out:

They are totally affordable at $21 for 150 straws. I purchased 150 straws with a guest attendance of ~100 people (PLANNING TIP).  The straws were well received by the guests and people were asking for the “fun straws” in whatever drink they were ordering. YAY!

Here’s a couple of my favorite pictures of barbor shop straws:

And for my absolute favorite purple straw picture …

Oh my I love that picture!  I’m dying to buy more straws maybe in pink or yellow, but first I need to find a party to help plan and/or host.  Anyone hosting a baby shower or have a bridal shower coming up?  This little detail would be fabulous!

Happy Planning!

Bridal showers are so much fun, but when it comes to opening the gifts you see a ton of the same stuff at each shower.  Glasses, mixing bowls, towels, baking sheets and well you get the point.  Sometimes it’s fun to get something not on the registry and I’m not talking about the re-gifted item or one that you don’t know what to do with when you get home ;)

Option 1

At both my shower and my girlfriend’s shower we got a version of the coolest gift idea.  I’ve been trying to come up with a proper name for this thing, but can’t … so let’s just go with “wine basket”.

Mine …

Wine Basket Life's Tidbits

A poem was on each bottle describing when we should drink the wine.  In addition it came with wine bottle accessories such as chocolate, picnic blanket, fire cd and stoppers.  Each extra item went with a bottle.

My Friends …

These had HAND MADE labels (so much artistic talent) and again said the circumstance to drink the wine.

I mean really, how cool are those!?!?!  The best part about this type of gift is it is totally customizable.  It is also wallet adjustable since you can modify the number of bottles of wine and accessories you purchase.

Option 2

Now this item I haven’t actually seen been given at a shower (YET!), but I think it would be a fabulous shower gift.  It’s a “Mrs. Hanger” for the bride’s wedding dress.  You can find these all over Etsy.  If the bride isn’t taking her husband’s last name you could also have the hanger personalized with Bride, I Do or something else along those lines.

I purchased the tiffany blue hanger with the notches (these are key to keeping the dress on the hanger).  The blue hanger doubled for as an extra something blue on the big day.

Take a look …

Note: This is a camera phone picture

I just LOVED the hanger. It added a little something extra for the dress pictures and I got a ton of compliments on it. Sorry I just had to thrown in a couple pictures of my dress here.  Oh and the hanger too =)

I’m dying for more unique bridal shower gift ideas, so please do add a comment with your non traditional gift tidbits.

Happy gift giving!!
