The husband’s favorite home improvement we made early on was wall mounting the TV in the living room.  For the past year we have discussed doing the same in our master bedroom.  If it was a simple wall mount we probably would have knocked it off the to do list a while back, however to make the TV more visible from bed we needed to do a corner wall mount.  And of course, the corner we wanted to put the TV in isn’t close to the cable outlet.

Being the super handy person he is, the husband decided we could run the cable wire ourselves (read himself) instead of hiring an electrician to install a cable outlet in the spot we want to have the TV.  The husband’s DIY electrical solution cost only about $45.  We purchased the following:

Plus we purchased the wall mount for an additional $60.  When looking at the picture the head of the bed is next to the window so one must turn their head to the left in order to see the TV.

Although the wires along the door frames don’t bother me they are apparently driving my husband crazy.  What’s driving me crazy is the wires hanging down to the cable box.  We need to install a shelf under the TV for the DVD player and cable box.  Once we do that this issue will be solved:

And thennnnn the husband can execute his project to hide the cable wire underneath the trim.  Though, this will have to wait until after the nursery renovations are complete.

We are loving the new positioning of the television.  It makes watching TV in bed so much easier!  Not only do I like the position of the TV now, but I think the dresser looks better without the TV on it.  What do you think of our wall mount?

Happy Home Improvements!

I’ve been trying to get started on the decor for the baby’s room and despite pinning a lot of cute nursery’s on Pinterest I really haven’t made much progress.  In the past when decorating I have picked the big pieces and then the small details/accents seem to fall into place and the room comes together nicely.  The problem with the nursery is the hubby and I just can’t seem to decide on any single piece of furniture so far.

About the only decisions we’ve made is to paint the walls gray (shocker I know!) and for the crib to be white.  You can probably see why we haven’t pulled the trigger on anything yet. :)   It wasn’t long after I started researching cribs that “sticker shock” set in.  While it would be nice to pretend there is no budget when it comes to our little one … I know there is.  To get us started I compiled a short list of cribs that fell on the splurge list and then found similar crib designs that would save us some moolah.

Nursery Crib Inspiration - Splurging vs Saving | Lifes's Tidbits

{1} Isabelle Iron Crib from Pottery Barn |  {2} DaVinci Jenny Lind from Amazon
{3} Emelia Sleigh Crib from RH Baby  |  {4} Stork Craft Vittoria from Amazon
{5} ducduc Oslo Crib from Land of Nod  |  {6}Babyletto Madison from Target
{7} Juliette Crib from Pottery Barn Kids  |  {8} Million Dollar Baby Ashbury from Overstock
While we still have plenty of time to decorate the nursery I am getting nervous we will never make a decision … or maybe it’s more I’m worried we will start going in one direction and then realize we should have gone another.

I can’t decide if we should splurge for the “perfect” crib or save on one we like.  I mean the baby is only in this thing for a couple years, right?  It’s not like a tween bedroom set that might last them through high school if chosen correctly.  Help please!!  Did you save or splurge on the crib?  Any recommendations on where to find the perfect crib?

Happy Decorating!

In July the hubby, Sophi and I went to Ocean City for a beach weekend with our friends and their little man {check out his Little Man/Mustache baby shower I threw here}.  Sophi is not really accustomed to sharing the spotlight or being around babies in general.  Overall I think she did great that weekend!  On the last day of the trip the two “babies” got up close and personal while playing on the floor.  Sophi mainly smelled him, while the little man tried to hug her.  This picture makes my heart melt … hopefully it is an indication Sophi will like Jellybean … a girl can hope, right?!!  How ADORABLE is this?

Nine times out of ten (it seems) the follow up question to “when is the baby due” tends to be “are you going to find out the gender?”.  As I mentioned in my first trimester tidbits post we quickly decided knowing the baby’s gender was a MUST.  I’m a planner by profession (what, what PMP certification LOL) and, well, it naturally carries over to my personal life.  The husband always jokes I’m his walking/talking calendar and to do list.

Anyways, here were the gender predictions:

  • Team Boy – Me, my sister and my dad
  • Team Girl – The hubby, my mom and 3 of my girlfriends
  • Team Who Knows – Everyone else.

I’ve heard stories of people who are at the doctors for over an hour trying to get their little one to turn/move into a position where they would be able to determine gender.  In fact, one of our cousins had to wait until her bundle of joy made HIS debut to find out her baby was a boy.  Jellybean on the other hand was chilling in the perfect position and it took the ultrasound technician just seconds to say …

I was absolutely shocked, because I was 100% convinced the baby was a boy.  Clearly, I am not a gender whisper-er  hahaha.  Either way I am THRILLED to being having a girl.  The hubby is very excited as well.  Some of his hilarious comments after finding out Jellybean was a girl included …

  • “I need to learn to play barbies.”
  • “What do girls like to play with?”
  • “She’s not dating until she’s 30!”  said completely straight faced and he was 90% serious.
  • And my personal favorite … “I guess this means we are paying for a wedding.”  If you know my husband, you know he’s extremely sarcastic and this was said (mostly) because he thought he was being funny.

I have vivid memories of being a little girl sitting at the dinner table, in the car or even walking down the street with my mother and sister chanting “girl power, girl power girl power” while pumping our fists into the air!!  My poor father was seriously outnumbered and soon enough the husband will be too.  With two daughters, a wife and a dog (who was also a girl) my dad was the only male in the house.  While he might like to pretend he’s a “man’s man”, luckily for us girls he is really a big teddy bear!  In honor of my “Girl Power” childhood memories I purchased the perfect onesie for Jellybean.

Now that we know we are having a GIRL it is time to get started on prepping the nursery, registering and all the other good pre-baby planning stuff.

Did you find out the gender of your baby?

There are SOOO many beauty products out there.  Now don’t get me wrong I love all the options, but sometimes it makes it hard to know what to choose when the market is so abundant.  It has taken me quite a few years to figure out what product work best for me.  I have a pretty big collection of makeup/beauty products in the house.  It often surprises me the husband hasn’t asked me why I have so much … he probably assumes it’s a girl thing!  When traveling I try to be selective and only bring the essentials with me.  Below are the products I wouldn’t want to go a weekend without…

makeup_essentials

{1}  Too Faced Shadow Insurance
The makeup artist for my wedding actually turned me onto this eye shadow base. It brings out the pigments in the eye shadows and helps ensure the shadow color stays strong all day!

{2}  Almay Oil-free Eye Makeup Remover Pads
Great little pads to remove eye makeup. Ever put on some shadow that just doesn’t look right? These little puppies get it off without having to re-wash your entire face!

{3}  Boi-ing Concealer
I am one of those people who has dark circles under her eyes ALL the time. It doesn’t matter how much sleep I’ve gotten or what I eat the circles never go away. I’m always trying new dark circle corrector creams in an effort to lessen the dark circles as I’m confident they will never be totally gone.  A friend recommended I try Boi-ing under eye concealer.  It is amazing!  It’s the only product I have found so far that actually covers those horrible circles and stays on all day.

{4}  Even Skin® Portable Foundation
Great basic foundation that doesn’t dry out my skin or look “cakey”.

{5}  100 Eye Shadow Platte
I bought this eye shadow platte on complete impulse one afternoon while shopping. It was so cheap I justified the purchase without much effort.

{6}  Mascara – Lash Curling and Lash Thickening
During the day I just apply the lash curling mascara. If we are headed out at night to an event, party, dinner, etc I will first apply the lash curling and THEN add the lash thickening on top. It adds just the right about to make me feel “more dressed up” than just my daytime mascara.

{7}  Neutrogena Make-Up Remover Cleansing Towelettes
These towelettes are fabulous. The makeup/mascara comes off so quick and leaves my skin feeling clean and not dried out!

I’m always on the lookout for something new.  What are your go to makeup and beauty products?
