Over the past year Life’s Tidbits Blog has gone through many changes. We started out on Tumblr and eventually migrated over to WordPress. Not only did the URL to the blog change, but it also got a new look and feel. I’ve been meaning to give the blog a face-lift since switching to WorkPress, but it never seemed to make it to the top of my to do list.
Here’s what Life’s Tidbits looked like on Tumblr:

When choosing a theme for the blog I really wanted to add links to other posts “you might also like”. I hadn’t been able to figure it out until recently. Last week as I was reading a couple of my favorite blogs I noticed a little LinkWithin text next to the “You Might Also Like” sections. I clicked the link and VOILA a free widget. And what exactly is this widget you ask? “LinkWithin is a blog widget that appears under each post, linking to related stories from your blog archive”. It was a cinch to install and LinkWithin was kind enough to provide step by step instructions. In under five minutes I had downloaded, installed and made live the new functionality. I’m super excite and loving the free widget so far!!! Do you like the new feature?
With one improvement already complete I figured why not continue with the updates. My husband found a site he thought I was really going to like a couple of weeks ago called Subtle Patterns. This site has tilable textured patterns that are FREE to use. There are tons and tons of options. I spent a long time looking at the different options and finally decided upon “Scribble Light”. After installing the background and figuring out how to make the posts and right navigation columns have a white background the site looked like this:
Since I was clearly on a role I spent about an hour creating a new logo for Life’s Tidbits. I must admit I’m not 100% in love with the new header, but I do think it’s a vast improvement from the “standard” header that came with the WordPress theme.
The header/logo (and design) is still a work in progress, but the site is slowly getting to have some “Life’s Tidbits” style to it!! What do you think? Do you like the new look of Life’s Tidbits?
